How can Feng Shui Benefit your Event?

The Entrance (Southwest sector)
There is a good energy for health at the entranceway of the dining tent. This refers to the health of the charity, so this bodes well for the success of the auction. If an outdoor fire feature is available it could be placed in this sector. Good lighting is a must here. This area falls within the "Sheng Chi" or Prosperity sector of the "Ba Zhai". This is quite good for the success of the auction. Use tall plants with large rounded leaves at the entrance to enhance this benefit.

"Yen Nien" (West sector)
There is an energy here that requires care when filling out forms or documents. We recommend moving the cashier which is partially in this sector. The cashier could be replace the bar which is inappropriate for the sector that it falls in.

This would be a good place for the "big bottle" as well as the bar. Water enhances a beneficial energy here, and drains a potentially harmful one. Liquid is symbolic of water.

This is also a good spot for the prizes table. The" Yen Nien" represents relationships. Prizes are a symbol of giving and will enhance this sector and the same feeling within the patrons.

"Tien Yi" (Northwest sector)
This sector has an auspicious portent related to health. It is good for a dining area and will give further benefit because of the activity of the diners. There is also an energy here, that is representative of authority and high standing within the community. To further enhance this benefit, metal energy is needed.

Luckily, metal is already represented by the shape of the circular tables. So benefit will be felt in this area without further change.

"Wu Kuei" (North sector)
Here is the residence of the most beneficial energy for money. To activate it, and amp up the prosperity, we need movement and light. The screens, as monitors of the live auction, are good for this sector. The element of earth should also be represented in this sector, to balance the space. This is somewhat accomplished with the square shape of the screen.

Placing visuals here, which reflect the charity’s value within the community, will strengthen the earth element; and has wonderful proximity to the items to be auctioned on stage. As the patrons are viewing the auction, they are simultaneously reminded of where their money will go.

"Fu Wei" (Northeast sector)
The prosperity star makes it's appearance in this sector. It is always good in business or pleasure to sit facing this auspicious energy. Fortunately, all of the diners will receive it's blessings. The northeast is also a supportive direction for this energy and further enhances it. The activity surrounding the catering tent and on the stage (sound is considered to be activity) activates this most auspicious energy. This is an excellent location for the stage as well as the catering tent.

This area is also what is known as the "Black Turtle" or "Mountain Energy" of the space. The stage visually anchors the space and the catering tent provides physical stability and a mountain-like energy.

"Lui Sha" (East sector)
There is a maligned energy here which can be balanced by the use of crystal or porcelain. This can be subtly placed or as dramatic as a large crystal chandelier, the effect will still be one of balancing this space.

We recommend using porcelain dinnerware or crystal stemware as a understated solution. Alternatively, an attractive display of auction items, that fit this description, could be placed here, unique or expensive pieces that are made of porcelain or crystal.

A transiting annual energy gives some counteraction to the maligned chi, however, crystal or porcelain is still needed here in some observable scale.

"Chueh Ming" (Southeast sector)
There is a benevolent combination of energies in this sector that promote good relationships and reputation. Nothing need be done to receive some benefit from this influence. However, this area requires the water element to balance the space and to fully feel the potential of this combination.

Water can be added to the space through the colors blue, black or deep ocean green; wavy shapes in patterns on fabric, artwork or rugs and with actual water or water pictured in artwork. Fish and natural beach objects are also a symbol for water. However it is represented, water is needed to balance this sector.

"Huo Hai" (South sector)
There is a combination of energies here that is good for money. To receive full benefit the metal element should be felt here. Metal is represented by the round tables inside the dining tent. However, this sector extends to the check-in and one outside bar. The metal element should be represented in these areas as well. A metal statue or attractive metal bowl is suggested.

This sector also has the portent for accidents if not properly balanced. If possible, we recommend moving the bar and "Big Bottle" to the other side of the entrance (in the southwest and west sectors) and placing the cashier here, to enhance the good financial energy inhabiting this sector.

If the outside bar cannot be moved for purposes of practicality and the comfort of the patrons, We recommend having the element metal represented in the outside bar area by adding tall round cocktail tables.

How can Feng Shui Benefit your Event?

The Lounge
The lounge has it's own footprint and therefore it's own orientation. It’s purpose also differs greatly from that of the auction tent. It is not nearly as integral to the success of the event. So, here we have taken form school considerations into account first and foremost. This is a physical analysis of the space, and is directly linked to the enjoyment and comfort of the patrons.

In the lounge, we want the energy to be one of cozy warmth. Clustering seating arrangements gives more opportunity for meeting and chatting with other guests. Geometric seating arrangements can have a formal feeling that does not lend itself to alounge. In Feng Shui the center of the space is known as the "Tai chi" and is usually best kept open. But in some cases, a fire element can be placed here to act as a sort of heart for the space.

As mentioned earlier, a "Ming Tang" should be created for this tent. Use plants and flowers to soften and blend the seating areas. We would suggest moving the seating arrangement from the center, and placing an appropriate-to-scale fire feature to act as a hearth for the guests to gather around. Then, cluster the seating arrangements around this focal point, leaving the largest and heaviest piece of furniture at the back to ground the space. Make sure that there is room to move easily around the space.

In the lounge, we want a balanced and inviting area for patrons to mingle, relax, and enjoy each other's company. This space lends itself to more of a "Yin" feeling. Lighting should be more subdued, colors deeper, and textures more luxurious. Jewel tones and candle light (natural or battery-powered) would create a cozy, "Yin" feeling.
